The Charms

All charms have flat backs that rest against the mage's skin. The charm's power enters the mage through its back surface touching the mage's skin.All the charms listed below are extremely powerful.

Naming Charm

An eight-point gold star inside a gold circle. Each point on the star contains a different colored gemstone that represents a particular type of magic. The charm is used during the Name Day Celebration, on the last day of the month when a girl or boy turns sixteen. If the teenager has the potential to master one of the types of magic, that gemstone lights up.

  • Blue Sapphire:  unknown and unused magic

  • Amber: Illusion—the ability to distort reality and to take on the form of specific people and animals

  • Cat’s Eye: Mind Bender—the ability to control a person’s mind and actions

  • Emerald: Conjure—the ability to create something out of thin air

  • Golden Topaz: Healer—the ability to cure illnesses

  • Sky Blue Topaz: Naturalist—the ability to control the forces of nature and animals

  • Ruby: Warrior—the ability to fight enemies and to protect friends

  • Amethyst: Transmutation—the ability to create and control creatures formed from dirt and other natural elements

 

Sister Charm

The second most powerful charm in existence, it belonged to Ulbra Thane. The charm is an Archmage charm and contains almost every kind of spell known at all magic levels and types of magic. The Sister Charm physically mirrors the Brother Charm, except for the type of metal and color of the gemstone.

 

Brother Charm

The third most powerful charm in existence, it belonged to Ulbridge Thane. The charm is an Archmage charm and contains almost as many spells as the Sister charm, at all magic levels and types of magic. The Brother Charm physically mirrors the Sister Charm, except for the type of metal and color of the gemstone.

Peer Charm

Only three Peer Charms exist. The charm is an extremely powerful Archmage charm – but not as powerful as Mage's Bane and Charm Slayer – and contains many spells at all levels and spell types. It also doesn't contain as many spells as Mage's Bane and Charm Slayer.

Mage’s Bane

One of the most powerful charms. The charm is extremely powerful, but all knowledge of its existence has been lost. It contains very high-level spells of all magic types. Some spells are different from those in Charm Slayer. This is the charm that Rill stole from the Old Mage's coffin.

Charm Slayer

One of the most powerful charms. Only one exists. Charm Slayer is extremely powerful. This charm contains very high-level spells of all magic types. Some spells are different from those in Mage's Bane. Only one charm exists, in the secret possession of the Estati.
